To believe in yourself is to have confidence that you can control your behaviour, accomplish tasks, surpass obstacles, and achieve success in specific areas of your life. To believe in yourself is to know you can.

You exist, and you believe you exist. And believing in yourself is a psychological strength. But believing in your potential and that you are “wonderfully made” may be a challenge, especially in the presence of failures and mistakes.

Why Believe in Yourself?

Believing in yourself is a phenomenon that affects your neuroplasticity. Therefore, by practising self-belief you develop neural pathways to strengthen your ability to overcome failures and challenges.

If you do not believe in yourself, you will not reach the potential you can. It harms your self-worth, confidence, and self-love. Therefore, it is important to believe in yourself.

Everyone you meet will have a belief or opinion about you. Some may believe you can achieve greatness. Others may undermine your capabilities.

Even so, what matters the most is what you believe about yourself because this guides everything you think and do in your life.

Remember where you have come from. Think of the moments in the past that you went through although they were tough. You have done it, and you can still do it. Recognize your personal progress without unhealthy comparison with others. No matter how small you think your achievements are, it is your effort.

Practise self-acceptance

To believe in yourself, improve your self-acceptance. Accept your strengths and weaknesses. Do not shy away from them. Accepting weaknesses here means recognizing them. It is only after you recognize them and accept that you need to work on them, that you can change.

Seek improvement and growth

What is your priority goal is it your career, business, education, spirituality, family, friendship, self, wealth? Do not stay stuck. Seek improvement in all areas of life that matter to you, not what matters to others, or so they can see you are making it.

Believe that you can do what you set your mind to do. Take steps toward progress, even when they might seem insignificant. The more you improve, the more you will believe in yourself. Also, learn new skills like a new language, coding, or how to play a musical instrument. Learning improves your personal effectiveness, and as a result, increases self-belief.

Regulate your emotions

You will experience both pleasant and unpleasant, intense emotions. How you react to them will influence your level of confidence in yourself later. Therefore, realign your reaction to strong emotions with what you want to achieve in life. Do not lose sight of your goals because of seeking immediate relief from strong feelings.

Put your emotions and feelings under control so that you can succeed. Turn your emotions into useful and not destructive actions. When you believe in yourself, you know that these feelings are there to inspire you to take action, not to push you down.

Associate with supportive people

Note who you listen to and spend time with every day. Surround yourself with people who will inspire and encourage you. They will motivate you and empower you instead of pulling you down either with words or actions.

Some people will believe in you more than you believe in yourself. Others will only discourage you and make you like you cannot achieve anything. Who you associate with determines whether you maintain your belief in yourself or lessen it. Make a point of learning from people who have accomplished goals that you are aspiring to be.
